Networking and building relationships
Business is ultimately about trust. To gain trust you need to build great working relationships and a fantastic business network. Here at BNI Westerham that's exactly what we do.
Our main aim is to come together to share our knowledge, expertise and business contacts with each other through word of mouth. We all know, that even in this digital world, nothing beats speaking to someone face to face and our unique referral marketing system ensures that we generate a continuous new flow of reliable, good quality business leads.
Peer-to-Peer support
We are a committed enthusiastic group that provides a supportive environment for local business people to network. We share our knowledge, skills and expertise within the chapter and support each other to enable personal development as well as business growth.
We act as trusted advisers and help guide each other by giving added structure, training and crucial feedback. We are open and honest but not judgemental. We've all been the 'new' person before so know how intimidating it can seem to contribute to a group meeting and that’s why friendliness and approachability are key for us.
Attendance is vital to building relationships within the chapter. Increased exposure to 'like-minded' professionals leads to meaningful long-term relationships, which in turn creates greater confidence within the group and therefore more referrals.
Financial gain through business referrals
Our network supports each other by referring business to people we meet who we think may benefit from the broad skill-set we have available within the chapter. By doing this we basically set up our own free marketing team for each other.
Everything is built on trust and belief in one another to achieve what's best for every business involved. With all of us giving referrals as often as we can, we create a great team to help push our businesses forward, opening up new avenues and possible new business sectors. Every business gains work and therefore increases their revenue.

Education and knowledge sharing
At every weekly meeting, each person stands up and presents their business and their ideal leads in 60 seconds. This enables everyone else within the chapter, and any visitors, to have a basic understanding of each other's business and what they are hoping to achieve.
Visitors are a key element to each BNI meeting. Visitors help spread the work of the members and also offer skills and services that are not, currently, part of the chapter. Some visitors will become members, others may not and may just use their attendance as a way of increasing their exposure and making new contacts. Everyone gains.
We also have a 10 minute slot, where a different member each week gives a more detailed presentation of their business so everyone understands the services and products they offer, making referrals much easier. Regular feedback is given, regarding any business passed between members, along with new referrals and testimonials.
We also utilise the BNI Professional Development Program, which gives us access to exclusive programs and opportunities to sharpen presentation and business skills and supplies each member with a monthly newsletter containing educational material on subjects such as networking, public speaking and how to deal with Q&A sessions etc.
Brand and business promotion
Your brand, essentially your business, will be seen and remembered by all chapter members and visitors who attend each meeting.
Each Tuesday morning is your opportunity to promote your brand with business cards, brochures, leaflets and promotional merchandise as well as talking about it. How many other opportunities do you have to put your brand in front of 20+ listening businesses?

As well as helping to build professional relationships, our chapter also enables members to gain confidence with public speaking and pitching their business - a key skill required in today’s business world.
With our ‘60 Second Slots’ members not only have the chance to promote their business and their ideal leads but also to improve their presentation skills. Some people, when they start, are very shy and introverted, they're not sure they really want to stand up in front of strangers and talk about anything, let alone try to promote their business.
However, over time, with the support and encouragement from fellow members, they find the courage and competence to deliver professional speeches and presentations. This not only helps the other chapter members have greater faith in them, it also allows them to approach their own clients/customers with far more confidence.
Developing personal skills, as well as business ones, is key to our chapter and the BNI in general.
