eCatalogue design, data organisation & process, procedure and print production for European leaders of stainless steel fasteners
We developed procedures for a fully automated production of an eCatalogue covering the majority of our clients stock list in a consistent, styled document that covers all variants, sizes and dimensions of the stock list whilst being multi-lingual covering English, German, Spanish, Hindi, Simplified Chinese and 'American'.
Background
PTS, One of Europe's leading suppliers of Stainless Steel Screws, Nuts, Bolts, Washers and Precision Turned Parts, maintain a huge and comprehensive stock (120,000+ products) of, mainly, stainless steel fasteners and fixings. They hold stock in three different steel types that ranges from tiny precision screws through to large threaded rods, with bolts, washers and anything in between. Whilst the website holds comprehensive details of the product range, with easy on-line ordering, they required a comprehensive all-encompassing document to enable their customers to have an easily referenced off-line document detailing the complete range of products. The idea was that this document could be stored on their laptop, phone, tablet etc for reference at any time - on site for example when internet access is non-existent.
Prototype solution
Taking a small sample of their data last year, we developed a prototype system that would act as a proof of concept. This worked well, with data issues identified and workflow processes defined.
Phase two
The second phase was built earlier this year which provides an English only version of the eCatalogue. This document runs to 300+ pages and includes all dimensional information, line schematics and a photograph of each product. Most products are covered in this document and is 'live' and available from their website.
Phase three
The third phase has now been completed and covers additional products that are technically more complex to map to a matrix of sizes and dimensions. Additionally the document is available in English, Spanish, German, Hindi, Simplified Chinese and, wait for it, 'American' (the reason for the US version is the same reason why we have a boot and they have a trunk). Also, the ultimate PDF document is indexed in a number of ways, with in-document active links and is fully searchable.
Final solution
Following on from phase three earlier this year, we have also completed the final eCatalogue data organisation and process that creates both online live low-res PDF and final press ready PDF in under 5 minutes , for which we have just received the printed catalague containing over 500+ pages!
